Summer Survival Guide: Moms, It's Time for Self-Care!

As the sun shines brighter and the kids are off from school, it's time to buckle up for some summer fun. But wait, amidst the chaos and change in routine, how can you take care of yourself? Well, fear not! As a therapist, I've got your back. In this blog post, I'm sharing some fantastic self-care strategies to keep you going strong while your little ones enjoy their summer break.

Embrace the Power of Routine

Listen, I know summer is about letting loose, but a little routine won't hurt. Set some loose schedules for meals, chores, and "you time". Having a bit of structure can help you keep your sanity intact while still embracing the laid-back vibes of the season.

Get Your Dose of Vitamin D

Hey, don't forget that the great outdoors is your friend! Take advantage of the sunny weather and plan outdoor activities for the whole gang. Whether it's a trip to the local park, a picnic with friends, or exploring nature trails, soak up that Vitamin D, breathe in the fresh air, and let the good vibes rejuvenate your soul.

Call in the Reinforcements

Supermom, you don't have to do it all alone. Reach out to your community for some backup. Arrange playdates or carpooling with fellow moms to lighten the load and share responsibilities. It's a win-win situation: your kids get to have a blast, and you get some well-deserved downtime.

It's "Me-Time" O'Clock

Ah, sweet "me time". Summer is the perfect opportunity to prioritize self-care activities that often get pushed aside. Find a pocket of time, be it early mornings or late nights, when the house is calm, and indulge in activities that make you happy. Read a juicy novel, meditate, take a bubble bath, or dive into a hobby that sets your soul on fire.

Mindful Mama Moments

Being present with your kiddos is a form of self-care, too. Practice mindful parenting by fully immersing yourself in the joy of the moment. Keep those distractions at bay (yep, smartphones, I'm looking at you!) and give your undivided attention to your little ones. Play, talk, and create memories together. Trust me, these moments are precious for both you and your kids. We even have a free resource to help.

Boundaries Are Your BFF

Sometimes you gotta set those boundaries! Even in the summer frenzy, make sure everyone knows and respects your needs. Establish designated "no work" hours or days to separate your personal time from household duties. It's all about finding that sweet spot between taking care of your family and taking care of yourself.

Moms, it's time to show summer who's boss. By embracing routines, basking in the outdoors, seeking support, making time for yourself, practicing mindful parenting, and setting healthy boundaries, you'll rock this summer with grace and style. Remember, self-care isn't selfish, it's the secret ingredient to being the best mom you can be. So go ahead, savour the season, and create wonderful memories while taking care of the most important person in the equation—you!
